Post Tonsillectomy

Last post na to about my tonsillectomy.

With Dr. Sakka in his clinic at BNH Hospital.

I finally had my follow-up appointment this afternoon -- it was originally scheduled for Wednesday, but Richard asked me to move it to Thursday so he can be with me. But yesterday was a public holiday here in Thailand so the doctor cancelled my appointment. It was then moved to this afternoon, but I still ended up going alone. Hay...

Anyway, what's more important is I was able to go to the doctor and he said everything's ok. No more pain in my throat and I can eat solid food. My only problem is, now that my tonsils are gone, there's more space in my throat and that makes drinking a bit difficult for me because I cannot do it the normal way (big gulps, straight from the glass, etc.). I now have to give extra effort (sip, swallow, swallow again) when I drink -- for the next two months at most.

Gosh, I'm a big non-alcoholic drinker pa naman. Non-alcoholic as in for example: everytime we'd eat out, I'd always order bottomless drinks because one glass is not enough for me, plus my idea of a refreshing drink is a tall glass of fruit shake or a glass Coke with lots of ice. Sigh...I guess two months is not that bad. I'll be back to normal in no time.

Oh, and the best part is, I lost 3 kilos. Woohoo!!! I just wish I won't gain it back. Haha!

excellent blog on the tonsillectomy! I'm thinking of getting it done in BKK too. Can I ask...Were you impressed with BNH? And how is your throat/voice now? Could you eat and drink as normal after a week or so?

Thanks so much

Hi J! Thanks for your comment. Sorry it took me this long to reply. Anyway, to answer your question...BNH is ok. They have english speaking staff so tourists will have no problem communicating with them. I also think that they are efficient because you don't have to wait long to see a doctor (unlike in the philippines where you will have to wait for hours for a five-minute check-up).

I think I was able to recover pretty quick. I was up and about a week after my surgery and I was able to eat normally two weeks after. I thought it would take me another two weeks to be able to drink normally, but it didn't take me that long.

Hope this helps. If you need to know more about BNH, they have a website. Good luck!

Hi!

Your blog was very informative about tonsillectomy here in Bkk. I'm thinking of getting my tonsills removed too. I'm suffering from it almost every month now. I think it has become very sensitive. Can I ask about the cost of your operation at BNH? Kindly e-mail me at stevekmx@yahoo.com

Thank you very much and I hope to get a reply from you soon.

Steve
