Lost in Bangkok: Klongsan Plaza

Ok, I know I mentioned in the last entry that the next post was supposed to be about our Chao Phraya River dinner cruise. Well, that was our original plan. So from Chatuchak, Sangkhom dropped us off at the River City Mall because this was the port for most of the dinner cruises. BUT, when we asked around, we learned that the rate per person was around Thb1,200!?! We figured that it wasn't worth it because we were still full from all the street food that we tried at Chatuchak. All we really wanted was to ride a boat.

From the River City Pier, we spotted a couple of restaurants across the river. I suggested that maybe we can just cross the river and see if the restaurants there also offered cheaper dinner cruise. No buffet meals, just ala carte because all we really wanted was to ride a boat. So cross the river we did. It was a short trip (less than 30 seconds lang yata), but for Thb3 per person, ok na rin!

At the cross river ferry pier. Turns out, they have boats that can either take you up and down the river (taxi boats or rua duan), or across the river (rua kham fak or cross river ferry).

We're taking the rua khan fak to to get to Klongsan Plaza.
a
a
This is the rua khan fak. It is usually standing room only. But that's ok, since it's just a short trip anyway.

Pero kahit sandali lang yung trip, we were so happy to be on a boat! Haha! Ang babaw namin.

Oo nga pala, at this point, you might be wondering why this post is entitled Lost in Bangkok: Klongsan Plaza. Kasi, naligaw talaga kami. Remember our main purpose of crossing the river was to get to the restaurants that we saw from the River City Mall? Well, when we got to the other side, we weren't able to go to any of the river-side restaurants. Turns out, wala palang daan from the pier to the restaurant. You have to go to the main road pa. Eh medyo malayo sya. Pero ok lang kasi we saw this tiangge selling super cheap clothes. Parang most of the items were like only Thb100. So sabi namin, lakad muna tayo dito tapos mamaya na lang natin hanapin yung daan papunta sa restaurant. Heehee!
a
a
We made it to the main road eventually, but we were tired and hungry. So we went to the first decent restaurant that Richard saw. It's called barbecue place, but it's not the kind of barbecue that we have in the Philippines. Parang Korean style sya.
a
a
Like this. You cook the food on your table. Each table has a charcoal pit, then they put this cookware on top. They pour some broth on the side so you can cook your veggies.
a
a
It's eat-all-you can and for only Thb129 per person, it was super cheap! Na-excite kami kaya ang dami naming kinuha. Hehe!
a
a
Ria and Kerwin loved it.
a
a
They loved the fact that this is not something that you will find in a regular tour guide. Off the beaten track talaga. The place catered mostly to locals so the staff spoke zero english. It was fun trying to communicate with our broken english and hand gestures. So in the end, it was ok even if we got lost (sorta).

Thanks Kris for the pics and for documenting the trip and blogging about it. I will forward your blog to my friends who are interested to know about our BKK trip. The trip was fun and I'd like to go back again. Sabi nga ni Gracia, pumunta ako ng BKK para ipasyal ka. hahaha.
You learn a lot of things when you travel. Both good and bad.
